SWE also allows member to actively promote engineering careers to area girls that have an interest in math and science. Get Involved!Active involvement looks great on resumes and sounds even better in interviews. SWE has many leadership opportunities for its members. You can run for office or help plan various activities throughout the year. The level of your involvement is up to you. You don't have to make every meeting, and non-members are welcome to visit to see wheat we're doing or to attend SWE sponsored events. Come to our first meeting or contact an officer for more information. ActivitiesThe Society of Women Engineers engages in activities that directly benefit our members, as well as ones that reach out to younger women. Social Activities: These are planned throughout the year according to what our members want to do to relax and get to know each other better. Women's Connections: We work closely with Women's Connections, a Student Life Program, to help plan and support a variety of activities that give female students the opportunity to interact with each other, as well as faculty and staff. Fundraisers: SWE will be sells Entertainment Coupon Books in the fall to raise money to attend conferences and do other activities during the year including bake sales around Christmas and St. Patty's Day. We are always open to new ideas, so if you have any, come to a few meetings and inform us. Engineering: A Hands On Future: This annual one-day event sponsored by John Deere and Rockwell Automation allows area 7th - 12th grade girls to sample different engineering majors in interactive sessions conducted by MSOE professors. This event is the largest project SWE participates in, and the Planning will begin during the winter quarter of the previous year. The event takes place on a Saturday in October (Date for 2008 still to come). Regional & National Conferences: SWE sends women to both reginal and national conferences. Women will be going to Bradley University in January to attend the reginal conference, and students travelled to Tennesse for the national conference this past October. We are always looking for new suggestions and ideas for additional activities, both social and professional. |
